A medical IoT gateway needed trusted, secure device configuration and clean Azure IoT integration, with security and compliance provable from the moment the device powers on.
The Challenges
Trust from power-on
Secure boot and a U-Boot upgrade establish a chain of trust before the OS even loads.
Provable, not just present
Security was documented and validated end to end so it can stand up to a compliance audit.
Approach
We worked from the bootloader up:
- A custom Yocto Linux build for the target hardware
- A U-Boot upgrade and secure boot configuration
- Azure IoT integration with blob storage
- End-to-end security hardening, documentation, testing and validation
The Solution
The gateway boots only trusted, signed software, is configured securely, and connects to Azure IoT out of the box. The work ran on Compulab i.MX8 hardware with a fully documented security posture.
